Visit Derry Conference Ambassadors Professor Siobhan O’Neill (Ulster University), Barry McGale (Suicide Bereavement UK) and Professor Rory O’Connor (University of Glasgow) in partnership with Visit Derry and Abbey Conference & Events have been successful in a bid to host the 30th World Congress of the International Association for Suicide Prevention (IASP).
The Derry bid was one of four shortlisted destinations including, Rome, Vienna and Piran (Slovenia) and after a competitive process the Executive committee have awarded the biennial World Congress to the city in 2019.
The five day conference on the 17-21 September 2019 is expected to attract over 600 International delegates to the city and generate an estimated £1.5m to the local economy.
Clayton Whites Hotel is the venue for this week's International Ramiran Conference which brings over 220 delegates from all over the world to Wexford for 3 days of knowledge sharing, field trips and networking. The team from Teagasc, led by Dr. Karl Richards, Gary Lanigan and Dr. William Burchill are hosting this conference and Abbey are delighted to be part of the team. Day 1 is a full day conference followed by a Gala Dinner in the hotel. On Day 2, delegates will attend the conference until lunchtime and spend the afternoon on field trips, followed by a Viking Themed BBQ in the National Heritage Park. The conference finishes at lunchtime on Day 3.
The prestigious JKA World Championships took place in University of Limerick from August 18-20 and brought over 1500 competitors from 58 countries to Ireland's South West for 3 days of intense competition. The campus at University of Limerick was an ideal venue for this event and received high praise from many of the countries participating. Abbey Events were delighted to partner with Sensei Noel Casey and JKA Ireland on this event.
Abbey Conference & Events have, for the second year in a row, been voted Best Professional Conference Organiser at the prestigious Event Industry Awards which took place in the Clayton Hotel Burlington Road, Dublin last Friday night. It's a fantastic achievement for the company to defend the title won last year and is testament to the hard work of the entire team. Dublin is set to host one of the biggest events on the Paralympic calendar next August as the European Swimming Championships take place in the National Aquatic Centre. Abbey were honored to partner with Paralympics Ireland and Swim Ireland on the bid for this prestigious championship which will the the largest Para sport event ever to be staged in Ireland.
For those who attended last week's hugely successful CIGRE Symposium in Trinity College Dublin, one of the abiding memories of the week was undoubtedly the performance of the famous Anuna Choir at the Gala Dinner in The Mansion House. In addition, the iconic surroundings of Trinity College provided a wonderful backdrop for a week of knowledge sharing at the symposium. The week concluded with a technical visit to Eirgrid's facilities in Ballsbridge.
Delegates from 29 countries attended the 14th Congress of the European Forum for Research in Rehabilitation which took place in Glasgow Caledonian University from 22-24 May. Glorious sunshine greeted the delegates upon their arrival and thankfully stayed until most departed on Saturday afternoon. A Welcome Reception took place in GCU on the first evening of the Congress and the big treat of the week for those who attended was a spectacular Gala Dinner in Glasgow City Chambers which was followed by a traditional Scottish ceilidh.
Over 1,100 delegates enjoyed 3 days of glorious Dublin sunshine at the 17th International Conference on Integrated Care in UCD from May 8th - 10th. Hosted by Dr. Aine Carroll and the HSE, the conference attracted a record number of attendees from all over the world. In addition to the conference in UCD, a Welcome Reception took place on the evening of Day 1 in Trinity College Dublin and a Gala Dinner on Day 2 in Royal Hospital Kilmainham. A great start to a busy month for Abbey!
Abbey were delighted this week to work with the Irish Society for Clinical Nutrition and Metabolism on the 2017 IrSPEN Conference & Policy Seminar which took place on Tuesday 28th March in Ballsbridge Hotel. Over 250 delegates attended this biennial event which consistent of several plenary lectures, a large industry exhibition and satellite symposiums.
We are delighted to announce the news that Dublin has been selected to host Velo City in June 2019, 14 years after the event was successfully hosted in the city in 2005. Hosting Velo City in Dublin in 2019 will accelerate the efforts by Dublin City Council and partner agencies to further the development of Dublin as a world class cycling city. Abbey are very much looking forward to working on this memorable event for the city.
